Abstract
The objective of this MS Thesis is to determine the feasibility of a
digital focusing controller for an optical disk tester. Current
research in optical data storage requires the use of optical disk
testers to charactertize new optical disks in the early prototype
stage. The optical disk tester at the Optical Science Laboratory
currently uses an analog controller to control the focusing and
tracking operations. A digital control system could be used in this
tester to greatly improve the performance of the tester. This thesis
describes the design of a digital servo control system to control the
focusing of the laser beam produced by the optical disk tester.
