Curriculum Vitae

I graduated in telecommunication engineering with summa cum laude from the Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, in May 2004 with a Master's Thesis on "Globalized Likelihood Ratio Test Detection Techniques in Subsurface Sounding Radars." During my studies I spent one academic year abroad (September 2000 - July 2001) at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) in Zurich, Switzerland. Between March and May 2003 I joined the Medical Imaging Group at Philips' Research Laboratories in Aachen, Germany, for a full time internship.

In Septemeber 2004 I moved again to Switzerland and joined Prof. Friedemann Mattern's Distributed Systems Group at the Department of Computer Science of ETH Zurich as a PhD student. I completed my PhD Thesis on "Adaptive Sensor Selection Algorithms for Wireless Sensor Networks" in October 2009 and I have then been employed as a postdoctoral researcher in Prof. Mattern's group until September 2011. From November 2010 until February 2011 I also joined Leonidas Guibas's research group at Stanford University as a visiting scholar. Since October 2011 I am an assistant professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of TU Darmstadt, Germany.

In my free time I enjoy doing sports (pilates, jogging, rowing) and reading books (from statesmen biographies to science fiction novels). Without any doubt, however, traveling and getting to know foreign countries and people is my greateast passion.
