Project Information

For unattended software installations, you would surely prefer the latest releases of the packages to be installed. This program helps you to keep track of updated versions of programs.

There are four files of importance:

• _getversion_info - here you specify the information you are interested in
• _getversion_version - in this file, the currently available version information is stored
• getversion.py - if you run this program with Python, you update the version file
• _getversion_cache - this is experimental; since we don't want to bother the web sites too often, and we would like to have current version information available even if we are offline, this file contains the most recent version information in machine-readable format (cPickle'd); the default check interval is 7 days
