Robin Moser, PhD Student of Computer Science at ETH, wins the renowned ACM Best Paper Award 2009

Bethesda, Maryland / Zurich, June 2009 - With his Work  “A constructive Proof of the Lovasz Local Lemma” Robin Moser, PhD Student of Theoretical Computer Science ETH Zürich, is awarded the renowned ACM Best Paper Award by the 41th ACM Symposium on Theory of Computing (STOC) 2009.

Robin Moser is a PhD Student in the Theory of Combinatorial Algorithms Group lead by Prof. Emo Welzl at the Institute of Theoretical Computer Science. 2008 he started with his Fast Track Doctoral Studies Program (ETH program for best qualified Students) in Prof. Welzl's group. We would like to congratulate Robin Moser for his extraordinary achievement!

About this ACM-SIGACT Award:

The STOC Best Paper Award is awarded to innovative researchers in the field of theoretical computer science for outstanding achievements such as introduction of a strong new technique, solution of a long-standing open problem or introduction and solution of an interesting and important new problem.

As the internationally leading conference of theoretical computer science, STOC (Symposium on Theory of Computing) addresses all scientists of computer science. This award is not restricted to students as candidates, it is open to all participant scientists.

From the submitted works only 20-30% are accepted by the commission. Therefore, even the placement of a paper can be seen as an achievement and success. Robin Moser not only succeeded to place a STOC paper - he even won the  „Best Paper Award 2009“. There is practically not more to achieve internationally for a PhD Student of theoretical computer science!

Robin Moser is already the second PhD student from Prof. Emo Welzls group to win an internationally renowned award recently. This stands for the high quality of research in this group and for Prof. Welzl's ability for chosing and encouraging very talented people.
