Assessment

General Guidelines concerning any assessments at ETH.
General Rules on Performance Assessment at ETH Zurich.
»

Most courses rely on examinations. Some courses use other methods to evaluate the achievement.

The credits (full amount independent of grade) are only awarded, if the course is passed (grade of at least 4.0). By the end of their studies students need to have achieved a defined number of credits for each course category. Ideally all / almost all courses should be passed already by the end of 2nd semester (see Master Overview » and Study Guide  PDF for details on mandatory credits and grading system). Repetition of a failed examination is only possible once - after re-enrollment and full participation in the corresponding course.

Information on the specific mode (time, type, language etc.) of each concrete examination is described in the course catalog. For further information on examinations, please contact the Administration Office of D-INFK. »

Exam Dates

The examinations may either take place at the end of the semester (semester-end examinations) or at the end of the semester break (session examinations).

The semester-end examinations are organized by the Department. You will be informed about the dates by the lecturers themselves or the D-INFK Administration Office. The session examinations are organized centrally by the ETH Examinations Office (Rectorate ETH). You will be informed via "mystudies" and e-mail.
