Full and Assistant (Tenure Track) Professor Positions in Computer Science

16 September 2005 - The Computer Science Department at ETH Zurich announces several professor positions with emphasis on Computer Systems, Information Security, Information Systems, Distributed Systems and Multimedia. We invite ap­plications from candidates with a strong research record, internation­ally recog­nized credentials, and an applied, systems-oriented focus.

While excellence is more important than precise specialization, we are particularly interested in the following research areas:

• Computer systems: System architecture, secure and trusted platforms, parallel systems, virtual machines, performance evaluation.
• Information Security: formal models and security proofs, protection against viruses and other mal­ware, security-relevant physical aspects of computation and communica­tion, new cryptographic functionality and protocols, privacy.
• Information Systems: personal information management, content management, text and multimedia data, data integration, focused crawling, semi-structured data, integration of IR and DB technologies.
• Distributed Systems: mobile systems, pervasive computing, massively distributed sys­tems, sensor net­works, software for embedded systems.
• Interactive Multimedia and Information Engineering: human-computer interaction, multimedia databases, data visualization, adaptive query processing, information filtering, novel architectures for information systems

Professors are expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and to carry out research; numerous collaboration opportunities exist with research groups at ETH Zurich, labs in Switzerland and the rest of Europe, and industry. The positions can be filled at the Assistant Professor or Full Professor level; assistant professorships have been established to promote the careers of younger scientists, with an initial appointment of four years and the possibility of renewal for an additional two-year period and promotion to a permanent position through a US-style tenure track system. Prior knowledge of German is not a requirement; courses from the second year on may be taught in English. ETH recruits its faculty, researchers and PhD students at the top international level.
